Bunbury selected to host innovation summit

Tuesday, 17 October 2017

The South West Development Commission has welcomed the State Government's decision to hold the upcoming Regional Innovation Summit in the South West.

Announced last week, the event will bring together regional innovators, business leaders and relevant government representatives from across the state to guide investment aimed at diversifying the economy and creating job opportunities in new businesses.

A total of $4.5 million through the State Government's New Industries Fund has been set aside for new and emerging businesses across a wide range of sectors where innovative technologies and processes can be supported to accelerate business development and enhance service delivery.

SWDC acting chief executive officer Rebecca Ball said having the summit in Bunbury was a coup for the region.

"The South West is already home to businesses, businesses accelerators and co-working spaces that are at the forefront of innovation," Ms Ball said.

"We welcome the opportunity for locals, as well as residents of other regions, to play a role in shaping a roadmap for growth.

"It is also a good chance to showcase local innovation and the positive changes that have taken place in Bunbury in recent times."

The Regional Innovation Summit will be held in Bunbury on Thursday November 23. Industry and community leaders with established business accelerators and co-working spaces across regional WA will be invited to discuss potential models for fostering regional innovation and entrepreneurship.
