Chance for businesses to connect to proposed lithium plant opportunities

Thursday, 10 May 2018

Local businesses with something to offer the construction of the proposed Albemarle Kemerton Plant are encouraged to attend an upcoming information and networking session.

The South West Development Commission and Albemarle Corporation, a leader in the global specialty chemicals industry, have teamed up to give local businesses and subcontractors the chance to learn about the project with the view to tapping into possible future opportunities.

Albemarle vice president of engineering, Edwin Berends, along with senior members of the Albemarle project delivery team, will be on hand to talk about opportunities associated with the construction and operations of the planned lithium hydroxide product manufacturing plant.

SWDC acting chief executive officer Rebecca Ball said the event taking place on Wednesday May 23 was the latest in a Commission-initiated series designed to ensure local businesses are considered for contracts.

"The South West has many of the skills and services big companies require when setting up operations in the region," Ms Ball said.

"We are grateful to Albemarle for taking the time to meet with local businesses, and hope the event serves as the beginning of new professional relationships.

"We urge local businesses to attend and put themselves forward. This is your chance to find out how your business might be able to link in with this major project earmarked for the Kemerton Strategic Industrial Area, near Bunbury."

In addition to learning about possible business opportunities associated with the project, attendees will be able to meet SWDC's new local content advisor who has been appointed as part of a State Government initiative.

The aim of the local content program is to ensure local businesses are given the best shot at tendering for government work, while also encouraging bigger businesses to think locally when awarding contracts.

The Local Project, Local Opportunities information and networking session will be held from 5.30pm to 7pm on Wednesday May 23 at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre.
