Line-up for energy futures conference grows

Tuesday, 29 May 2018

The South West Development Commission has officially announced more of the speakers who will illuminate the opportunities and challenges presented by the changing energy landscape at a major conference being held in the region.

WA Independent Power Association chair Richard Harris, Collie Synfuels managing director Costa Tsesmelis and Greenpower Energy chief scientist Alan Flavelle will all share their thoughts at the Critical Horizons - Powering the Future of WA event in Collie on Friday June 8.

The trio round out the long-list of presenters announced earlier this month that includes WA Energy Minister Ben Wyatt, Tristy Fairfield from Carnegie Clean Energy, and Western Power's Ben Bristow.

Topics to be explored during the full-day conference community energy, living off the grid, and technologies such as solar, bioenergy and virtual power plants, as well as alternative uses for coal. The role of coal will also be explored.

SWDC acting chief executive officer Rebecca Ball said the conference had been designed to be relevant to businesses, government, industry and the general community.

"We encourage you to come along and be part of the discussion around the changing energy landscape in our cities and towns, down to your business and home," Ms Ball said.

The event is open to the public and tickets can be purchased by visiting www.criticalhorizons.com.au . Delegates have the option of attending a free welcome function on Thursday June 7, prior to the full day conference on Friday June 8.

Critical Horizons - Powering the Future of WA is being made possible by Alcoa, LandCorp, Operation Next Gen Collie, Regional Development Australia - South West, Shire of Collie, South West Development Commission, and Synergy.
