Sherry to share experience of living off-grid

Friday, 25 May 2018

Imagine never having to pay a power bill.

While it's something many dream of, it's a reality for Barrie and Sherry Thomas.

The South West couple have been living ─ and working ─ off the grid for more than a decade.

Not only do they run their home on solar, but they also use the standalone power system to operate a bike repair business, Cycletrek, as well as run bike maintenance workshops and an eco-accommodation facility from their Lowden property.

Ms Thomas will provide insight into what it's like to live off the grid when she speaks at the upcoming Critical HorizonsPowering the Future of WA conference taking place in the energy hub of Collie on Friday June 8.

The presentation will be relevant to anyone interested in generating their own electricity and reducing their power consumption, including those living in remote areas.

Joining Ms Thomas on stage to provide insight into the changing energy landscape and the opportunities for households, businesses and communities will be a long-list of thought leaders.

Guest speakers will include WA Energy Minister Ben Wyatt, Synergy chief executive officer Jason Waters and Coalition for Community Energy chair Heather Smith.
