Visiting international buyers aiming to unearth South West products

Wednesday, 19 June 2019

The export potential of locally-made products will once again be highlighted on the back of a major foodie festival when the South West Development Commission hosts an overseas trade delegation in the lead-up to the Truffle Kerfuffle festival this weekend (June 21 – 23 2019).

The group – comprising importers from Malaysia and high-profile chefs and importers from Vietnam – are this week touring the South West, stopping in the Bunbury-Geographe, Margaret River and Southern Forests areas.

While in the South West, the visitors will have the opportunity to sample what the region has to offer, meet one-on-one with representatives from local businesses, and experience the Truffle Kerfuffle food and wine festival.

The visit is one in an ongoing series organised by SWDC’s TradeStart team as part of efforts to connect local producers to global market opportunities.

A seperate delegation will also visit the South West for the Cabin Fever event taking place in Margaret River in July.

SWDC acting chief executive officer Rebecca Ball said inbound trade delegations were an effective mechanism for bringing buyers and producers together for targeted business matching to grow exports from the South West.

“We work globally to get the best results locally. And we are delighted our continued efforts are providing opportunities for local businesses to compete in the international marketplace,” Ms Ball said.

“The clean, green and safe image of the South West is a big attractor to importers on the search for premium value-added food and beverages.”

SWDC is part of the State Government and works to make the South West an even better place to live, work and invest.

It is contracted by the Australian Trade Commission to deliver Austrade’s TradeStart services, and recently announced the creation of a Regional Trade Network to service the South West, Great Southern and Goldfields-Esperance areas.
