South West businesses encouraged to enter expanded awards

Thursday, 28 March 2019

An innovative local business will be among those recognised at this year’s annual South West Business Excellence Awards, which has been expanded to give both small and medium-sized enterprises the opportunity to enter.

The South West Development Commission has announced it will partner on the Innovation Award in the 25th year of the prestigious Awards run by Business South West.

Held annually, the Awards have grown to become one of the most prestigious events on the South West business calendar, bringing together the community to recognise the outstanding quality and achievements of local businesses.

SWDC acting chief executive officer Rebecca Ball said the State Government agency was proud to get behind an event that recognises, promotes and encourages excellence in business, helping the region to retain its competitive edge.

“The Commission is a long-time supporter of this great event, and in this milestone year we are delighted to have the opportunity to champion innovation in business through our sponsorship of the Innovation Award, which is one of the Judges' Choice Awards,” Ms Ball said.

“Innovation is important to the growth and success of business. We encourage local businesses to enter this awards category if they have been involved in the development and application of new ideas that enhance business operations or competiveness, or add value for customers.

“We would also like to take the opportunity to congratulate Business South West on 25 years of recognising excellence in business through the Awards.”

Business South West marketing and projects officer Shannon Gale said she’s excited to see the range of businesses putting themselves forward this year.

“We want to see the Awards reflect the business talent and capability we have here in the South West, from a variety of industries and locations,” Ms Gale said.

“We’re looking for businesses from across the South West, be they based in Harvey, Collie, Capel, Manjimup, Greenbushes-Bridgetown, Boyup Brook, Nannup, Dardanup, Donnybrook-Balingup, Augusta-Margaret River, Busselton or Bunbury.

“By engaging with our local Shires, Chambers of Commerce and key partners, we’re looking forward to seeing a greater spread of business representation from not only our immediate city hubs, but the region as a whole.

“It’s looking to be an exciting year for the Awards, celebrating our 25th anniversary and increasing our spread to include medium-size businesses with up to 100 employees.”

Businesses are encouraged to enter the South West Business Excellence Awards. More information, including award categories and how to apply, can be found at www.businesssouthwest.com.au .

Applications close April 30. Winners will be announced at a gala ceremony at the Quality Hotel Lighthouse on June 29.
