The town of Collie is located 60 kilometres from the regional City of Bunbury, and is linked to the Bunbury Port by a rail freight network. Mining and power generation are the major contributors to the local economy.
Historically a coal mining town, Collie produces all the state's coal supplies, which are sold on the domestic market. Western Power uses the majority of the coal for electricity generation with the remainder used by industry in the production of alumina, mineral sands, cement and nickel.
The Worsley Alumina Refinery situated near Collie processes bauxite mined in the Shire of Boddington. Alumina production is at record levels with a processing value of $1.3 billion in 2008-09. More mining sector statistics.
