Another transformation underway in Collie as trails beckon riders

A commercial space in the town centre of Collie is being given new life by Col Smout who is repurposing the premises into short-stay accommodation for the trails and wider adventure market.

Having sat empty for years, the portion of the building on Steere Street under redevelopment is currently a hive of activity with work taking place to develop a lodge.

Col brainstormed the idea for the latest reiteration of the property in Easter 2024 before securing assistance from the Collie Futures Fund to help make the idea a reality.

“You’ve just got to reinvent yourself and think where you’re headed,” Col said.

Once complete, the lodge will meet the needs of visitors wanting to head out and explore the stunning natural environment on Collie’s doorstep.

Designed to be a home base for adventure, the lodge will offer 30 beds across three standard rooms and three bunk rooms.

There will also be communal kitchen, dining and lounge areas as well as a dedicated places for bike storage, wash and repair.

Situated opposite Soldiers Park, close to the Wagyl Biddi Trails and not far from other hot spots, the lodge will cater for individuals through to groups wanting a place to relax when in town to immerse themselves in activities such as mountain biking, hiking, and kayaking.

Following significant investment in Collie’s adventure trail network by the WA Government, Collie is now officially a Trails Town attracting fans of the great outdoors.
