2025 sees a new era for the South West Development Commission, with the announcement of Cate Brooks to the role of Chief Executive Officer of the South West Development Commission (SWDC).
Ms Brooks is no stranger to the South West having recently served as the Director of the Collie Delivery Unit in the Department of Premier and Cabinet since 2022. In this role, she has led a team and worked closely with SWDC to deliver the implementation of the State Government’s $662 million ‘Just Transition’ package.
She brings with her senior leadership experience across the public sector in Western Australia, previously working as the Executive Director of the Native Forestry Transition at the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation and in various positions at the South West Development Commission.
Ms Brooks’ appointment follows the departure of outgoing CEO Mellisa Teede, who finished up in the role in September 2024 after five years of service to the Development Commission. We thank Ms Teede for her contributions to the Commission, notably including being the catalyst for the development of the Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Hub proposal, and her visioning for the inaugural Innovative Industries of the Future (IIF) Conference. Current Acting Chief Executive Officer Ashley Clements will continue in his acting role until Ms Brooks commences in mid January 2025.
