Local businesses are encouraged to register their interest in being part of the biggest transport infrastructure project ever planned for the South West.
Expressions of interest are open for subcontract and supply opportunities associated with the $852 million Bunbury Outer Ring Road.
Construction will potentially involve the remaining stages of a 27-kilometre high-standard link connecting Forrest Highway near Treendale to Bussell Highway and creating a new road network. Components are set to include grade separated interchanges, bridge crossings and rail crossings.
Works are anticipated to get underway next year – subject to environmental and heritage approvals – and now is the time for businesses to put themselves forward for work by promoting their capabilities.
SWDC chief executive officer Mellisa Teede said the project was expected to generate considerable economic benefits, including thousands of direct and indirect jobs.
“Projects of this scale don’t come around too often and we want as many contracts as possible being won by the highly-capable businesses based in the South West,” Ms Teede said.
“From Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront to the Margaret River Perimeter Road, we have a good track record of connecting local businesses to job-creating State Government-funded projects.
“Through the State Government’s Local Content Adviser Network, we have a local content adviser who is working on this project along with local organisations including the BORR Local Business Advisory Group to maximise local supplier, contractor and job opportunities.
“We have the capabilities and skills here in our region – and where possible we want as many work opportunities flowing to local residents and businesses.
“Already, briefings and workshops have been held, including a Local Project, Local Opportunities session at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre in 2019 that was well-attended by local businesses.”
