The Commission’s role is to coordinate and promote regional and economic development in the South West Region. As a statutory authority of the WA Government, the Commission aims to maximise job creation, diversify the region’s economy, support enabling infrastructure and services, provide information and advice to business, and support vibrant, liveable communities.
The six-member board comprises representatives of local government and community and meets bi-monthly to set policy and make decisions about a broad range of economic and regional development projects.
A vacant position currently exists for a Community representative on the Board.
People may nominate themselves or others; organisations may also make nominations. Board nominees should possess interest and knowledge relevant to the South West region. Relevant fields of involvement could include business and industry; employment, education and training; tourism and recreation. The Commission is seeking to further strengthen its diversity, so people of Aboriginal or migrant backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
Applicants will be assessed on their ability to make a significant contribution to the Board, together with a demonstrated involvement in either the economic or social development of the region. The term of appointment will be between one to three years subject to Ministerial approval. Sitting fees and travel reimbursement apply for non-State Government employees.
For further information, contact the Executive Officer to the Board on 9792 2000 or board@swdc.wa.gov.au.
Nominations close 5pm, Monday 15 December 2025.
