Locals and visitors to go cray-cray for new South West destination

A South West premium marron producer has expanded its operations to become a new regional food and tourism destination, thanks to a WA Government grant.

The Capel Marron Farm, which opens today, now offers a unique pond-to-plate dining experience that allows visitors to enjoy fresh marron and other South West and Western Australian produce while overlooking the farm’s marron ponds.

The expanded venue blends casual dining with immersive visitor experiences that showcase the iconic Western Australian marron, strengthening the farm’s role as both a food producer and tourism attraction.

An interactive discovery centre is set to open in the coming months and will feature viewing tanks, a walking plank and close‑encounter experiences, further enhancing the destination’s appeal for locals and visitors alike.

The Capel Marron Farm will also be available for general functions and will provide a dedicated space for marron farmers to meet and connect, supporting greater collaboration and industry development across the region.

The farm operates a hatchery that supplies juvenile marron and feed to local producers before purchasing mature marron for sale into domestic and international markets. Its premium marron is supplied to high‑end restaurants, including venues in Melbourne, alongside other species produced at the farm such as Murray cod and silver perch.

The expansion was supported by a $147,280 Regional Economic Development (RED) Grant through Round 5 of the WA Government program.
