In this regular series, we provide insight into our team. This month, we introduce you to Chloe Rafferty who supports our corporate and executive functions. What is the focus of your work and a typical day for you at SWDC?
The core of my work is supporting the corporate and executive functions here at South West Development Commission. While much of my day is spent assisting people who call or visit the office and supporting staff with IT issues or general enquiries, behind the scenes I also take care of financial processes and a variety of office responsibilities. A big part of my role is taking care of the details that often go unnoticed, from keeping the coffee beans and printer toner stocked to making sure our technology runs smoothly. A mundane day here doesn’t exist for me, which is one of the main things I enjoy. I am lucky enough to engage with a range of stakeholders, suppliers, and community members while actively connecting with my team and ensuring their needs are met as well. I have learned so much here from being work experience, to administration officer, to acting executive officer.
What sort of clients contact you and what sort of support can you provide?
I receive a range of queries from members of the public and local businesses to government agencies, suppliers and regional stakeholders. A big part of my role is acting as a first point of contact; I assist by providing information where I can, and by connecting the requester to the appropriate person. Areas I can assist directly include finance-related enquiries, particularly when suppliers have questions regarding invoices, payments, purchase orders, or our processes.
What do you like best about living and working in the South West?
Having spent my whole life in Western Australia’s South West, I’ve grown up recognising every corner and have a real appreciation for what makes the region special.
Undeniably, I love that my family and closest friends are here. Being able to make unique spur of the moment plans with them is such a gift, whether it’s watching the dolphins at Koombana Bay, spending the morning at local markets, or taking the little ones in my family to the Bunbury Wildlife Park. My favourite South West day trip is a visit to the Honeymoon Pool in Collie. While a cold plunge might sound intimidating, the atmosphere and fresh water is incredible. The highlight about working in the South West is witnessing our growing economy and seeing our region develop a wealth of opportunities. It is truly exciting to see the region continue to grow and evolve, and to play a small part in shaping its future!
