Trade missions showcase South West’s premium wines and agrifood to global buyers

The South West’s premium wine and agrifood industries have been in the spotlight, thanks to major trade missions promoting Western Australia’s world-class food and beverage offerings to international buyers across key global markets. We take a look back at these trade missions, geared at facilitating export opportunities for local businesses.

WA Fine Wine Showcase & Dinner – Shanghai

A trade promotion was held in China this November to capture export market opportunities for premium Western Australian wine. As part of this, the Western Australia Fine Wine Showcase and Dinner was held at The Langham, Shanghai over 10 and 11 November 2025. This promotion of WA wines saw almost 30 Western Australian wineries from Margaret River, Geographe, Pemberton, Great Southern and Swan Valley present close to 200 wines to more than 250 invited guests, including wine buyers and distributors, media representatives and industry leaders.

The program featured:

  • A China market update from one of the country’s leading wine distributors
  • A media briefing
  • Two masterclass sessions
  • A Grand Tasting
  • An exclusive showcase dinner for key trade, media and key opinion leaders

The event was delivered by TradeStart teams from the South West Development Commission and the Great Southern Development Commission, with in-market support from Austrade, and funding partnership from Wines of Western Australia and the Great Southern Wine Producers Association. The showcase aimed to further drive demand for premium WA wines, facilitating long-term trade relationships and export opportunities.

TradeStart TASTE WA 2025 Inbound Buyer Mission – Western Australia

The South West and Western Australia’s premium quality food and beverages were showcased to international buyers as part of the Taste WA 2025 trade mission from 19-25 October.  The mission provided buyers with a first-hand experience of the State’s premium food and beverage offerings.

Delegates represented key markets including China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, the United Arab Emirates and Taiwan.

Over six days, buyers toured Perth, the South West and the Great Southern, connecting with more than 90 Western Australian producers, including 11 export-ready South West businesses. After attending the Buy West Eat Best showcase, the group travelled south to gain deeper insight into the provenance, sustainability and innovation behind WA’s agrifood sector.

Program highlights included:

  • A visit to Truffle Hill in Manjimup for an immersive truffle experience including canapés prepared in the newly re-opened restaurant.
  • A tour of the facilities at Rare Foods and Subsea Estate in Augusta, which included an abalone tasting paired with exclusive one-of-a-kind wines at the Ocean Pantry.
  • A farewell dinner at Shelter Brewing in Busselton.
  • A final stop at the Vasse Bunbury Farmers Market before departure.

The mission was coordinated by the TradeStart WA team, comprising the South West Development Commission, Great Southern Development Commission, Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA, Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, and supported by the Department of Energy and Economic Diversification.

Strengthening South West’s Global Presence

Both missions showcased the depth, quality and diversity of the South West’s premium products, while strengthening global connections and reinforcing the State’s reputation for sustainable, innovative and world-class produce.

Building on the success of previous initiatives, these efforts continue to support Western Australian producers by opening new market pathways, deepening engagement with key international partners, and helping to elevate WA’s profile on the global stage.
