Works are underway to create a thriving, walkable waterfront destination along Casuarina Drive in Bunbury. As part of the Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront project and continued efforts to create a waterfront everyone can enjoy, the underused strip along Casuarina Drive at Jetty Baths is being transformed for community use. We’ve been documenting the transformation so far – check out the photos on this page!
New-look coastal strip starts to emerge
More of the shoreline on the Casuarina Drive side of Bunbury’s Jetty Baths is being transformed into a thriving, walkable destination for locals and visitors.
Works are underway to renew the underused coastal strip for the enjoyment of the community.
With progress being made, the new-look section is shaping up – offering a glimpse of the boardwalks and picnic areas that will be available for use later this year.
Once complete, people will be able to enjoy further opportunities to embrace Bunbury’s coastal lifestyle thanks to a continuous, vibrant coastal strip from Jetty Baths park offering greater walkability and amenity.
Benefits include dune revegetation, enhanced coastal protection, as well as shade shelters, seats and picnic tables, and a modern toilet block.
The enhancements are being undertaken by Halifax contractor LD Total working for the project manager for the Casuarina Drive Redevelopment, DevelopmentWA.
It continues the renewal program that has been undertaken in the area including the upgrade of Jetty Baths park incorporating improved beach access along with a new accessible playground, new pathways, landscaped areas and seating as well as picnic and barbecue facilities.
The project forms part of a program of works carried out under the banner of the Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront, a WA Government project which is overseen by the South West Development Commission. Other transformations have included the Koombana Foreshore revitalisation and Jetty Road Causeway upgrade.
